The Dotsero Southern ordered 30 SD60M locomotives in January 1993. These units were delivered between February and April.
Dotsero Southern SD60M locomotives have seen many rebuilds since their introduction in 1993, most recently being equipped with auto-start in 2021. All units would be repainted into the "Wings" scheme in 2002. Like many other units on the roster, K5LA type horns would be mounted just behind the exaust on the long hood with bells 2 and 4 being reversed. While SD60M locomotives were generally designed to run short hood forward, many local runs would require the DSRR to install ditchlights on both the front and rear of the unit. Ditchlights were not initially added however, only being mounted 3 years after their build date in 1996. Like all other units, these units were given a horizontal Gyra-light on the cab roof and used vertical nose mount headlights. Positive Train Control (PTC) would be installed in 2014 alongside another rebuild program DSRR was putting the SD60Ms through. These PTC antennas would be mounted on the cab top just behind the Gyra-light which was not moved during this addition.
One very noticable change done to units in 2014 was the replacement of their trucks. All SD60M locomotives in the fleet were rebuilt to ride on HTCR style trucks to improve handling at speed.
Unlike most units on the roster, DSRR SD60Ms received rear numberboards rather than the typical absence of numbers on the rear.
Aside from rough handling, the SD60Ms have proved to be reliable, liked units on the DSRR roster. Although, many units have faded paint in modern day.
